Meranti is liable to attack by powder post beetle. All species are moderately durable and it is moderately resistant to preservative treatment. The grain is interlocked and the texture rather course.
The wood’s colour is medium to dark red-brown. The nailing and screwing properties are good and the wood glues, stains and polishes well.
Meranti is mainly used for pergolas, doors and handrails. It is also used for joinery, shopfitting and flooring.
